When the lung meridian has sufficient fluids, phlegm and fire won’t arise, and qi will flow harmoniously. If fluids are insufficient, phlegm will condense, fire will accumulate, leading to coughing and weakness, and qi will lose its harmony. This formula uses candy, licorice, and gelatin to nourish the stomach and replenish lung fluids, while also adding ingredients that clear fire, eliminate phlegm, calm floating qi, and relieve depression, all aimed at protecting lung metal and maintaining its harmony. Although this formula isn’t as pure as the “Save the Lungs” soup, it focuses more on clearing fire and reducing phlegm, whereas the other focuses more on clearing dryness and saving the lungs. Different formulas have different purposes, so there’s no need to criticize each other (1).

[Note] (1) Wu-xiang-di: “Di” and “zi” both mean slander or criticism. Here, it means there’s no conflict between the formulas.

[Comment] This formula originates from “Ten Medicinal Divine Books.” It differs from the “Clear Dryness and Save the Lungs” soup: this one focuses on clearing fire and reducing phlegm, while the other focuses on clearing dryness and saving the lungs.
