The otter liver changes shape with the moon, producing one leaf each month; in January, they combine into one leaf. Due to its unpredictable nature and ability to kill parasites, this mysterious substance is also used to treat hidden and bizarre parasitic infections, making it an ancient, legendary medicine. The formula is named "Yuehua," literally "Moonlight," but the name comes from this unique property. Parasites arise from blood stasis, so Notoginseng is used to dissolve stasis. Blood turns into parasites due to phlegm-heat, so the remaining herbs are used to moisten and clear phlegm-fire. However, if the goal is to kill parasites, the liver alone is sufficient. If the aim is to remove stasis, Notoginseng alone suffices. But if both goals are pursued simultaneously, combining attack and support, addressing root and symptom, it becomes a comprehensive strategy for victory.
[Note] This formula originates from "Bihua Yijing." The original formula contained Shu Di, but this version omits it.
