Brief Introduction to Brucea Javanica 2001.3.27
Brucea Javanica is the mature fruit of a semi-evergreen shrub in the Simaroubaceae family. It has a bitter-cold nature and enters the Liver and Large Intestine meridians. When it enters the Large Intestine meridian, it treats dysentery; when it enters the Liver meridian, it controls malaria. Essentially, its main function is insecticidal. Dysentery is caused by amoebic dysentery, and malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites, so traditional Chinese medicine mainly uses this herb for pest control. Usually, it is taken wrapped in longan flesh to protect the stomach; adults take 10–30 pills each time, and children add one pill for every additional year of age, taking it orally 1–3 times. Since the 1950s, there have been successive reports that Brucea Javanica oil effectively treats external ear and throat papillomas, facial warts, common warts, and juvenile condyloma acuminata. Recently, some have reported that Brucea Javanica oil has achieved remarkable results in treating breast cancer, anal cancer, and esophageal cancer. The Health Center in Chengguan Town, Shidao County, Hebei Province, reported using this preparation to treat esophageal cancer, which drew widespread attention. At the end of the 20th century, foreign researchers extracted Brucea Javanica bitter substance from its oil and discovered its significant anti-cancer activity. Subsequently, domestic research on the anti-cancer effects of Brucea Javanica oil became more in-depth and meticulous, successfully producing Brucea Javanica oil emulsion suitable for intravenous, oral, and cavity administration. Oral Brucea Javanica solution has certain efficacy against esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and colon cancer; it also has some effect on lung and liver cancers. Take twice daily, one vial each time, for a one-month course.
