Systemic Lupus Erythematosus-Associated Lower Limb Thrombophlebitis as of May 19, 2001
In early summer, a railway worker came to Huicuitang Clinic, a female suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus for eight years. She had undergone long-term hormone therapy and concurrently taken Tripterygium wilfordii, Kunming mountain begonia, and compound traditional Chinese medicine preparations, with fluctuating disease courses. In recent years, both lower limbs had been persistently swollen and painful, progressively worsening to the point where mobility was severely restricted, prompting her to seek treatment. I diagnosed her as having systemic lupus erythematosus complicated by lower limb venous thrombosis and prescribed the following formula: angelica sinensis, ligusticum chuanxiong, vitex negundo, clematis armandii, pangolin scales, salvia miltiorrhiza, curcuma wenyujin, red peony root, scrophularia ningpoensis, prunella vulgaris, poria cocos combined with guizhi shaoyao zhimu tang, plus 15 g of caowu and chuwu (decocted for one hour first), xiehuo chongji half a packet twice daily, followed by Gusheng II and Xiaofeng Chushi capsules, totaling 14 doses. As a result, the leg swelling completely subsided, and the patient’s joint pain, general fatigue, and erythema improved significantly compared with before.
