Lean Meat Powder Poisoning 2002.1.11
The main ingredient in lean meat powder is clenbuterol. On the Chinese market, products like Asthma-Su, Cough-Su, Ambito, and Ambichloro-Astma are available; this substance is a β-receptor agonist. Clenbuterol is eliminated from the body more slowly than other β-receptor agonists, with a half-life of 25–39 hours. Because of this, it can promote metabolism, reduce fat, and increase lean meat, but it also carries the risk of cumulative poisoning. Some people add clenbuterol to animal feed to increase livestock weight and lean meat, and this substance accumulates heavily in animal livers, often reaching 4.5 mg/kg. If humans consume 100 g of such liver, poisoning can occur. The main symptoms of poisoning include palpitations, anxiety, tachycardia, tremors, dizziness, muscle pain, nausea, and abdominal distension. For patients experiencing these symptoms, oral administration of β-blockers such as propranolol (Inderal) or metoprolol (Betaloc) can provide relief.
