Telomerase is a cap-like structure at the ends of chromosomes, typically regulating cell division and proliferation. Telomerase activity in peripheral blood is usually low, but significantly increases in cancer patients. Therefore, measuring telomerase activity is commonly used to identify certain cancers or precancerous lesions.
