Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) have been proven effective for patients with coronary heart disease, but recent studies conducted by Harvard Medical School, the New England Research Institute, Washington University School of Medicine, and others—using large samples and multicenter randomized, double-blind, controlled trials—have shown that adding ACEI group drugs such as enalapril to existing coronary heart disease treatments does not improve mortality rates. This news challenges conventional wisdom and could impact households worldwide. However, the fact that these drugs can improve quality of life remains undeniable.
