This soup is the main prescription for treating hepatitis. From a pathological perspective, hepatitis treatment should consider two key aspects: ① inhibiting the replication and elimination of the hepatitis virus; ② inhibiting liver cell damage and preventing progression to chronicity. To achieve this, it is necessary to prevent cell membrane damage caused by immunological mechanisms and subsequent liver cell damage—both of which are effectively addressed by Xiao Chaihu Tang and Chaihu saponins. Currently, it is believed that the body's immune response to liver-specific antigens on hepatocytes is a major factor in the onset and progression of chronic hepatitis. In vitro, Xiao Chaihu can inhibit hepatocyte damage caused by antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and strongly suppress antibody production. Compared with corticosteroids and levamisole, Xiao Chaihu Tang's immune-regulating effects are not only more effective but also have fewer side effects.
