The composition of the Kidney-Nourishing and Sugar-Lowering Decoction is as follows: Rehmannia Root, 12 g; Chinese Yam, 30 g; Cornus Fruit, 6 g; Moutan Bark, 6 g; Poria, 12 g; Alisma, 12 g; Anemarrhena Rhizome, 6 g; Goji Berries, 20 g; Achyranthes Root, 10 g; Trichosanthes Root, 30 g. Decoct in water and take one dose daily. ("An Medical Journal," May 1986)
Additions and subtractions: For qi deficiency, add Astragalus and Prince Ginseng, 15 g each; for greasy tongue coating, add Atractylodes.
The characteristic of this formula is the heavy use of Trichosanthes Root, Chinese Yam, and Goji Berries. Its composition combines the Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Decoction with Zhi-Bai, Qi-Ju, and Jisheng formulas. However, its approach does not go beyond conventional methods.
