Wang Wenzheng’s Experience in Treating Liver Disease, June 29, 1991

This senior physician from Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine treats liver disease using the spleen-tonifying method, believing that “tonifying the spleen naturally eliminates accumulation.” The prescription uses Shenling Baizhu San. For liver pain, adding Sanqi can both relieve pain and shrink the liver; enzyme reduction is achieved by clearing the liver, but kidney-nourishing ingredients are always added to the formula; liver cleansing commonly uses Xiaoji, Huang Qin, and Baijiang Cao; kidney nourishment often relies on Liuwei Dihuang Wan. When treating hepatitis B surface antigen carriers, he frequently uses Longdan, Qingdai, Mingfan, Huang Qin, Baihua She She Cao, Ercha, Dahuang, Shandougen, Shanzha, Dazao, and Gancao. This formula is a modification of Longdan Xiegan Tang, with Ercha and Mingfan being characteristic additions in Wang’s prescriptions.
