Another Discovery Regarding Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, January 20, 1993

The pathogenesis of this disease is characterized by deficiency at the root and excess at the surface. The root requires the Lanzhou formula, while the surface manifests as high blood counts. The previously mentioned San Leng, E Zhu, soil bugs, leeches, and Ma Qian Zi are all highly effective. Additionally, Qing Dai, Bai Hua She She Cao, Ban Zhi Lian, Xi Shu Gen, and Shi Jian Chuan are also excellent choices, as they clear heat and detoxify, while also having anticancer effects. Guan Zhong, Ma Chi Xian, raw gypsum, Qing Hao, and Chai Hu are commonly used when fever persists. If the fever does not subside, Gui Zhi Shao Yao Zhi Mu Tang can be employed, with Fuzi always used at 30 g for initial decoction.

After careful consideration, I propose the following treatment plan for chronic myelogenous leukemia:

Basic formula: 12 g of Sheng Di Huang, 20 g of Shan Yu Rou, 10 g of Shan Yao, 10 g of Dan Pi, 12 g of Fu Ling, 15 g of Ren Shen Xu, 15 g of Tai Zi Shen, 15 g of Dang Shen, 5 g of Bei Sha Shen, 10 g of Maidong, 3 g of Wumeizi, 30 g of Fu Xiao Mai, 6 g of Zhi Gan Cao, 4 dates, 20 g of Bai Shao, 20 g of Oysters, 10 g of San Leng, 10 g of E Zhu, 6 g of Tu Bi Chong, 1 Ma Qian Zi, and 6 leeches (to be taken orally).

Adjustments: If white blood cell count is high, add Qing Dai, Xi Shu Gen, Shi Jian Chuan, Bai Hua She She Cao, and Ban Zhi Lian; if there is fever, add Qing Hao, raw gypsum, Chai Hu, and Ma Chi Xian; if there is bleeding, add Xian He Cao, Tu Da Huang, Da Huang, Huang Qin, and Huang Lian; if the fever persists, add Gui Zhi Shao Yao Zhi Mu Tang, with Fuzi always used at 30 g for initial decoction.

Mnemonic: “Lanzhou formula includes horse, soil, water, green tree, white stone, half technique. Fever brings green stone, tiger, horse, and amaranth; bleeding brings three yellows and Xian He flying. Low-grade fever lingers, Gui Zhi Shao Yao closely follows. For enlarged liver and spleen, there’s a good method—leeches, five spirits, peach blossom, and horse.”
