Massive Osteolysis, December 26, 1993
This disease was first reported by Gorham in 1954, hence the name Gorham’s disease. Due to rapid bone resorption and destruction, it is also known as “ghost bone.” It mainly affects young adults between the ages of 20 and 30, regardless of gender. Massive osteolysis is often accompanied by chylothorax and ascites. Most patients are asymptomatic, some recover spontaneously, while others die from complications such as pleural effusion, ascites, pericardial effusion, infection, or compression. There is currently no effective treatment, and no definitive therapy exists.
