Wu Jutong’s Xiangfu Xuanfu Hua Decoction on July 21, 1995
Xiangfu 10 g, Xuanfu flower 10 g, Perilla seeds 10 g, tangerine peel 6 g, Pinellia 6 g, Poria cocos 10 g, almond 10 g, raw coix seed 20 g. The mnemonic for this formula is: Su Xing Ren Xiang Fu. Wu said: “Summer heat and dampness accumulate in the diaphragm, leading to phlegm accumulation, which causes palpitations, dizziness, restlessness, insomnia, and excessive phlegm with coughing and wheezing.” My father treated phlegm accumulation in the chest and diaphragm, resulting in chest tightness and pain, and most people used the Clear Heart Drink. The composition of this formula includes: Xiangfu leaf, Xiangfu stem, Qianghuo, Pinellia, tangerine peel, Poria cocos, big belly skin, green skin, mulberry bark, cinnamon twig, white peony, fresh ginger, big dates, woodruff. These two formulas are like sisters—one for phlegm accumulation in the chest and diaphragm, the other for phlegm accumulation in the lungs. For palpitations and restlessness, use Xiangfu Xuanfu Hua Decoction; for chest tightness and pain, use Clear Heart Drink.
