Research on Three Seven—September 20, 1995
Three Seven is also known as Shen San Qi, Han San Qi, Jin Bu Huan, and Tian Qi. It is the dried root of a perennial herbaceous plant in the Araliaceae family, mainly produced in Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Sichuan. It is generally believed to have hemostatic and blood circulation-promoting effects, as well as the ability to break up blood stasis and disperse clumps. However, few people know that this herb also has a powerful blood-tonifying effect. Professor Zhao Fen from Fujian College of Traditional Chinese Medicine once treated a severe anemia patient with Three Seven, giving her 1g twice a day. After only one month of treatment, her hemoglobin level rose from 70g/L to 112g/L. This shows that Three Seven is truly a versatile medicine that both invigorates and tonifies. Based on its blood circulation-promoting effects, this herb is also a primary drug for treating coronary heart disease and arteriosclerosis (including cerebral thrombosis). Experimental studies have confirmed that it has excellent lipid-lowering effects. Professor Chen Dingqi from the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine used 2g of this herb, taken twice a day, to treat angina pectoris, achieving an 82% effectiveness rate and a 78% lipid-lowering rate among 85 cases. Teacher Tao Wensheng from Pingdingshan Health School in Henan Province used this herb to treat 100 cases of jaundice-type hepatitis, proving its bile-promoting, jaundice-reducing, and enzyme-lowering effects, as well as its obvious effect on chronic active hepatitis B. His self-formulated San Dan Tang has a clear surface antigen-negative conversion effect, reported in 42 cases, usually turning negative after two months of treatment. Dr. Lu Zheng from Zhejiang Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine accidentally discovered that Three Seven has obvious diuretic effects, having been used to treat hepatic, cardiac, and renal edema, with many successful cases. In summary, Three Seven has multiple effects: promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, nourishing qi and tonifying blood, stopping bleeding and relieving pain, anti-inflammatory and detoxifying, promoting bile flow and reducing jaundice, promoting urination and reducing swelling, protecting the liver and lowering enzymes, and increasing albumin levels.
