Case Study of Lumbar Spinal Tuberculosis with Cold Abscess—October 26, 1995
In the summer of the Year of Yi Hai, I saw a patient in the conference hall with lumbar spinal tuberculosis and a cold abscess measuring 8cm × 12cm × 10cm on his back. The patient was thin, anemic, cachectic, and in extremely poor condition. Since the farmer had no money for further examination, he sought treatment from me. I immediately prescribed Xiong Huang Wu Chong Wan (Xiong Huang 70g, Jiang Can 30g, centipedes 20, scorpions 10, winter worm summer grass 50g, gecko 50g), grinding all ingredients into powder, filling them into capsules. Xiong Huang should be steamed inside radishes until cooked, then dried in the shade, before being mixed with the other ingredients to form capsules. Take four capsules each time, three times a day, after meals. After finishing one course of this medicine, the cold abscess ruptured, the sinus tract closed, and the patient was given another course. By then, the patient's face was rosy, his energy was abundant, and he was like any healthy person. This formula was passed down from my father; 20 years ago, I used it to cure a farmer in Mengjia Mountain, Tianshui, of a tuberculous cavity, and five years ago, I cured a female patient in Kangming Village, Wushan County, of a tuberculous cavity. This medicine is truly a highly effective remedy. It works wonders on tuberculous ulcers and necrosis, but whether it can be used for chronic sinus tracts caused by osteomyelitis remains to be explored in clinical practice.
