Three Cases of Multiple Liver Cysts—November 16, 1995

In the Year of the Water Pig, I encountered two cases of multiple liver cysts in the outpatient clinic. One case involved massive hepatomegaly with the lower edge of the liver extending down to the pelvic cavity, yet the patient could still move normally and had no splenomegaly. CT and ultrasound confirmed multiple liver cysts. I prescribed a formula to soothe the liver, promote bile flow, and reduce swelling, combining it with Gu Sheng II, and after a month of treatment, both the enlarged liver and abdominal distension improved. Another case involved jaundice, hepatomegaly, and ascites. Initially, I used Gu Sheng II to promote diuresis and reduce jaundice, and the patient was delighted with the improvement, but the jaundice persisted. I then switched to a liver-cancer-specific formula, and after two months, the jaundice finally subsided. Later that same month, at the Conference Hall, I saw a patient who had undergone two previous surgeries—one for biliary obstruction and another for abdominal exploration—spending over ten thousand yuan without any effect. The jaundice, ascites, and generalized edema remained unchanged. I first used Gu Sheng I to promote diuresis, then switched to a liver-cancer-specific formula, resulting in complete recovery. This case was ultimately confirmed as multiple liver cysts.
