Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)—November 27, 1995
This is the most common condition, also known as irritable bowel syndrome. Previously referred to as allergic enteritis, spastic colon, or allergic colon, modern gastroenterological syndromes also fall under this category. In fact, this disease does not involve inflammatory lesions, and functional disturbances are not limited to the colon. IBS primarily affects middle-aged and older adults, with slightly more males than females. Diarrhea and constipation alternate, and pain is common. A cord-like mass can be felt in the lower left abdomen with mild tenderness, accompanied by symptoms of autonomic nervous system dysfunction throughout the body. X-rays show accelerated gastrointestinal motility. Treatment for this condition mainly relies on traditional Chinese medicine, with syndrome differentiation proving consistently effective.
