Treatment of Headaches January 22, 1996
For headache treatment, internal medicine employs formulas such as Chuanxiong Cha Diao, Qing Shang Juan Tong, and Xuefu Zhu Yu. According to the "Comprehensive Collection of Famous Contemporary Chinese Physicians' Prescriptions," there are currently seven such formulas, all intended for treating neuralgic headaches. These can be broadly categorized as follows:
① Headache-specific medications: Chuanxiong, Bai Zhi, Xi Xin, Tian Ma, Gao Ben, Man Jing Zi, Ju Hua, and Gou Teng.
② Wind-dispelling and damp-clearing agents: Qiang Du Huo, Fang Feng, Chuan Wu, Cao Wu, and Fu Zi.
③ Yin-nourishing and blood-tonifying herbs: Dang Gui, Sheng Di Huang, Gou Qi Zi, and Mai Dong.
④ Insect-based remedies: Wu Gong, Quan Xie, Jiang Can, and Di Long.
⑤ Heat-clearing and fire-draining herbs: Long Dan, Huang Qin, and Sheng Shi Gao.
⑥ Spleen-strengthening herbs: Bai Zhu, Fuling, Ban Xia, Wu Zhu Yu, and Ge Gen.
⑦ Liu Wei Di Huang Tang, Xuefu Zhu Yu Tang, Gui Pi Tang, and Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang can all be applied.
