For chest pain in coronary heart disease, I often use Gualou Xiebai Banxia Tang. Adding blood-circulating and stasis-removing herbs to this formula has obvious effects, with Guanxin II being the most commonly used. Recently, I added leeches to the above formula, which brought even more unique effects; additionally, there's Wu Shuibuhai Han Sanqi, and adjustments based on the blooming of mountain peonies in five valleys. Now, looking at the sixth issue of the "Chinese Medicine Journal" in 1993, Mr. Xia Mingxue from Hebei Medical College enhanced the efficacy of his formula by adding a single ingredient—Asarum—to the syndrome-differentiated prescription, which I also adopted. This elder usually uses Asarum at 6–9 g, but in my experience, Asarum can be used in larger quantities, up to 20–30 g, as long as it's boiled for 40–60 minutes beforehand.
