Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment of Subacute Thyroiditis—April 18, 1997

Western medicine treats this disease with hormones, but due to the long duration of medication, side effects often occur, and sometimes hormone treatment even hinders the recovery of thyroid function. Surgical treatment can lead to hypothyroidism after surgery, causing mucinous edema, and if too much thyroid tissue is left behind, the disease may recur. Therefore, neither hormones nor surgery are ideal treatments.
