Ligustrum Lucidum and Eclipta Prostrata—May 5, 1997

These two herbs have similar effects: both tonify the liver and kidneys, nourish yin and brighten the eyes, cool the blood and stop bleeding. From my experience, these two herbs have a clear effect in removing dark spots and also have a certain blood-pressure-raising effect. When used together, they can make the complexion radiant. These two herbs are also called "Two to Pills," where "two to" refers to the balance of qi and blood, as well as yin and yang. However, their primary function is to nourish yin, and according to the principle of mutual dependence between yin and yang, they also have the effect of restoring yang. Ligustrum lucidum is the dried fruit of Ligustrum lucidum, an evergreen shrub or small tree in the Oleaceae family, slightly kidney-shaped, never withering in winter, with lush branches and leaves, hence the name "Wintergreen Tree"; Eclipta prostrata is a plant in the Asteraceae family, growing on high-altitude snow mountains, sprouting under the snow in winter, and flourishing when the snow melts, thus achieving the effect of nourishing both yin and yang.
