Fever-Reducing Formula for Leukemia, April 15, 1998
Leukemia, especially acute leukemia, often presents with fever originating from the disease itself, in addition to fevers caused by colds or infections. Back in the 1970s, I treated two cases: ① Li Ying, a 15-year-old female child of railway station employees in Lanzhou, diagnosed with ALL, who experienced persistent high fever and profuse sweating after chemotherapy, despite antibiotic treatment. I prescribed Qinghao Biejia Tang combined with Baihu Tang, plus 10 g fresh Agastache rugosa, 10 g fresh Artemisia argyi, 20 g fresh lotus leaves, 10 g bamboo leaves, 10 g tender bamboo shoots, 20 g fresh reed roots, 20 g fresh Imperata cylindrica roots, and 6 g Magnolia flowers. After three doses, her fever subsided significantly. This formula draws inspiration from Mr. Yue Meizhong’s Seven Fresh Soup, employing water to control fire. ② Lu Ning, son of a provincial party committee member in Gansu, diagnosed with ANLL, whose condition improved after chemotherapy but still suffered from high fever and profuse sweating for over ten days, with antibiotics and hormones proving ineffective.
My proposed formula: Mulberry leaves 10 g, chrysanthemums 10 g, honeysuckle 20 g, forsythia 20 g, platycodon 20 g, reed roots 20 g, apricot kernels 10 g, raw gypsum 30 g, Anemarrhena asphodeloides 10 g, glutinous rice 30 g, Agastache rugosa 10 g, Artemisia argyi 10 g, bamboo leaves 10 g. Five doses reduced the fever. In summary, Agastache rugosa, Artemisia argyi, bamboo leaves, platycodon, reed roots, lotus leaves, bamboo leaves, and bamboo shoots are among the best choices for reducing fever in this condition (reactive fever).
