Non-Gonococcal Urethritis 1999.3.4

This disease is caused by Chlamydia and Mycoplasma and is primarily transmitted through sexual contact; however, in recent years, transmission via shared bathing equipment and swimming pools has also become increasingly common, meaning that some cases are not sexually transmitted. The clinical manifestations of this disease go far beyond ordinary urethral infections. In addition to frequent urination, urgency, and dysuria, patients often experience significant discomfort, pain, and itching around the anus and genital area, extending to the entire perineum, both thighs, lower abdomen, and lower back. Some patients may even experience retrograde spread to both kidneys and ureters; in extremely rare cases, renal failure may occur. Western medicine typically uses quinolone preparations as the first-line treatment for this condition. Ofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, and Norfloxacin all demonstrate certain efficacy. Recently, Azithromycin 0.25g × 12, taken three times daily for three days, has been recommended and shown some effectiveness. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Huangjing Liucao Dan is considered the first-choice treatment for this condition, where “six herbs” refer to Juncus effusus, Eclipta prostrata, Plantago major, Centella asiatica, Lithospermum erythrorhizon, and Gentiana scabra. Huangjing 20g combined with these six herbs forms Huangjing Liucao Dan. Based on my experience, using Jisheng Shenqi Tang, which is highly effective for age-related urethritis, in combination with the aforementioned Liucao Dan often yields rapid results.
