Experience in Treating Chronic Nephritis, November 27, 1999

In early winter of the Ji Mao year, I treated a patient with chronic nephritis at Hui Cui Tang. The patient had previously been hospitalized at Lanzhou Second Hospital for over two months, with BLD (++++) and protein (+++) in the urine, yet there was no improvement. Upon examination, the patient’s blood pressure was 130/95 mmHg, with edema and typical precordial pain. I prescribed Kuangxiong, Guanxin Ning, Gusheng II, and Xiaofeng Chushi, and additionally formulated the following prescription: Gualou 6 g, Xie Bai 10 g, Banxia 6 g, Chi Shao 15 g, Dang Shen 10 g, Mai Dong 10 g, Wu Wei Zi 10 g, Chuan Xiong 10 g, Hong Hua 6 g, Jiang Xiang 10 g, Salvia miltiorrhiza 20 g, Han San Qi 3 g (administered in divided doses), Shui Zhi 10 g (administered in divided doses), Xue Yu Tan 10 g, and Ajiao 10 g (melted). After taking seven doses of this formula, the patient felt overall comfort, the edema subsided, and BLD in the urine dropped to just +. The treatment of this disease is thought-provoking: Gualou, Xie Bai, Banxia combined with Guan II, Han San Qi, Shui Zhi, Dang Shen, Mai Dong, Wu Wei Zi, along with Xiaofeng Chushi, Gusheng II, and Guanxin Ning, all contributed to such obvious therapeutic effects, which are truly inspiring. Previously, the bile-pancreatic compound formula had achieved excellent results in treating aplastic anemia and immune thrombocytopenic purpura. The former treats the heart and heals the kidneys; the latter treats the liver and generates blood, clearly demonstrating the interconnectedness of heart and kidney, as well as the shared origin of liver blood.
