Application of Sandostatin 2000.6.14
Sandostatin, also known as octreotide, is a synthetically produced octapeptide somatostatin. This product inhibits all endocrine hormones in the human body, with particularly prominent effects on the gastrointestinal and pancreatic endocrine systems. Due to its inhibitory effect on growth hormone, it is most effective against carcinoid tumors, while also having significant effects on gastrinomas, insulinomas, and glucagonomas. Because of its strong suppression of the gastric, pancreatic, and intestinal endocrine systems, it is highly effective in treating upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Typically, 1 mg is added to 250 mL of normal saline for intravenous drip, administered 1–2 times daily, yielding noticeable results.
