A friend named Huang Qingcheng came to my home and mentioned that the book “Practical Internal Medicine Combining Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine” described a prescription by Liu Guo’an for treating chronic colitis that was remarkably effective. I reviewed the prescription: Dang Shen, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Gan Cao, Chen Pi, Shan Yao, Gan Jiang, Fu Pian, Chuan Jiao, Wu Mei, Huang Lian, Huang Qin, and Shiliu Pi. This formula is essentially Wumei Wan minus Dang Gui, with Yigong San and Shan Yao added.
Wumei Wan: 10 Wumei, 4g Chuan Jiao, 9g Gan Jiang, 16g Huang Lian, 6g Huang Bai, 6g Dang Shen, 4g Dang Gui, 6g Xi Xin, 6g Fu Zi, and 6g Gui Zhi. This is the complete composition of Wumei Wan. The formula emphasizes Huang Lian and Wumei, followed by Gan Jiang, with all other ingredients at 6g.
