Introduction to Professor Pei Zhengxue
Pei Zhengxue is a chief physician, professor, and doctoral supervisor, a renowned expert in integrated traditional and western medicine in China, a lifetime council member of the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, honorary president of the Gansu Society for Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, a national mentor for apprenticeship programs for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, a doctoral supervisor at the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a master’s supervisor and academic advisor at the Gansu College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the first group of famous veteran traditional Chinese medicine doctors in Gansu Province, chief expert at the Gansu Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences, chief expert at the Gansu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, honorary director of the Gansu Provincial Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, and a member of the Gansu Provincial Museum of Literature and History. He graduated from the Medical Department of Xi’an Medical University in 1961 and has served as vice president of the Gansu Provincial Academy of Medical Sciences, editor-in-chief of the journal “Research on Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine,” and a member of the 5th, 6th, and 7th committees of the Gansu Provincial Political Consultative Conference. He has formally published and distributed 15 medical works, including “Practical Internal Medicine of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine,” “Commentary and Explanation of Blood Disorders,” “Collection of Medical Talks and Case Records by Pei Zhengxue,” and “Medical Notes by Pei Zhengxue,” as well as more than 80 medical papers. He has received one world-class award, one national-level award, and multiple provincial- and ministerial-level science and technology progress awards. The specialized prescription he formulated for treating leukemia in 1974 was officially named the “Lanzhou Formula” at the National Hematology Conference and has been widely used in hospitals across the country for over a decade with remarkable efficacy. The monumental work he edited—the first comprehensive textbook on internal medicine of integrated traditional and western medicine in contemporary China, “Practical Internal Medicine of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine”—was awarded the “International Gold Award for Outstanding Contribution” at the Third World Congress of Traditional Medicine held in the United States in April 1996, and he himself was honored as one of the “Top 100 Stars of Ethnic Medicine in the World.” His proposed “Sixteen-Character Guideline” for integrated traditional and western medicine has garnered attention from the entire field of traditional and western medicine in China. In his spare time, he enjoys literature, poetry, and calligraphy, and has published “A Collection of Novels and Essays by Pei Zhengxue,” “A Collection of Poems and Prose by Pei Zhengxue,” “A Collection of Calligraphy by Pei Zhengxue,” and “An Introductory Guide to Medical Practice in Cursive Script.”
