1. fengxiaoxia: Female, 12 years old, diagnosed with appendicitis. Can it be cured with traditional Chinese medicine? Is surgery necessary?
Answer: If the appendicitis has not progressed to suppuration or perforation, it can be treated with TCM and herbal medicine. For simple appendicitis, TCM is highly effective.
2. Haijiang: I have a classmate whose stomach has always been weak. Whenever she eats hard-to-digest food, her stomach feels very uncomfortable, and sometimes she even suffers from constipation. This has been going on for several years. What should she do? How can TCM help regulate her condition?
Answer: It seems your classmate may have chronic gastritis combined with gastrointestinal dysfunction, commonly referred to as gastrointestinal syndrome. TCM treatment for this condition is remarkably effective. For example, Xiangsha Liujun Wan, Banxia Xiexin Tang, and Maziren Wan with appropriate modifications all show good results.
3. Xiaomianaojing: My mother is 47 years old and has dilated cardiomyopathy, pericardial effusion, cough, white foamy sputum, gastric distension, and difficulty urinating. She relies on diuretics every day to urinate, but there is no edema. Could you please advise on how to treat this condition?
Answer: Dilated cardiomyopathy often leads to heart failure. Diuretics can reduce the heart’s preload and are therefore the first-line treatment. If there is significant pericardial effusion and generalized edema, it may indicate cardiac tamponade, which is less responsive to digitalis-based cardiac stimulants. In such cases, TCM formulas like Linggui Zhugan Tang, Zhenwu Tang, Shengmai San, and Jijiao Lihuang Wan, adjusted according to individual symptoms, are highly effective.
4. Tianxiawuze: During my last menstrual period, my eyes were swollen every afternoon, but the swelling went away by the next morning. What could be causing this, and does it have anything to do with the kidneys?
Answer: This is likely due to endocrine imbalance caused by the menstrual cycle. TCM methods for regulating menstruation can effectively treat this type of swelling. Using Taohong Siwu Tang, Danzhi Xiaoyao San, and Guizhi Fuling Wan, tailored to individual symptoms and adjusted accordingly, can yield good results.
