10. Light Menstrual Flow and Abnormal Discharge
Question: I am 22 years old and unmarried. My menstrual flow is light and dark in color, and I usually have a lot of discharge that is pale yellow and has an odor. In the days leading up to my period, I produce a large amount of clear, white discharge. This has been going on for several years. How should I treat this condition?
Answer: It appears that you have gynecological inflammation—mild cases may involve adnexitis, while severe cases could be pelvic inflammatory disease. Traditional Chinese Medicine, in addition to clearing heat and detoxifying, draining fire and removing dampness, also activates blood circulation to resolve stasis, which is very effective. Western medicine, however, focuses only on anti-inflammation and lacks the concept of blood activation, so its effectiveness is often limited.
