12. Gastric Prolapse vs. Gastritis Diagnosis
Question: A patient in their thirties has gastric prolapse. Without undergoing gastroscopy, how can one determine whether they have superficial gastritis or atrophic gastritis?
Answer: Strictly speaking, it is impossible to make a diagnosis without gastroscopy. However, with extensive clinical experience, doctors can make a rough estimate based on subtle clinical manifestations. Generally speaking, milder cases are superficial gastritis, while more severe cases are atrophic gastritis. Of course, some cases of superficial gastritis may not present with very mild symptoms, and some cases of atrophic gastritis may not be very severe—there are individual differences.
