4. Skin Allergies and Eczema

Question: I’m 27 years old, and my skin has been problematic for the past four to five years. Whenever I apply skincare products, my face turns red, itches, and peels. I also have eczema on my hands, and neither topical medications nor injections have been effective. Additionally, my fingernails are slightly concave, and I’ve always eaten a very light diet. How should I treat this?

Answer: You have an allergic constitution. People with this type of allergy are not only prone to chronic eczema that’s hard to cure, but their skin is also sensitive to many substances. You should avoid seafood and fungi (such as mushrooms and wood ear), eat less meat, and make a firm commitment to curing your eczema. Traditional Chinese medicine is very effective in treating eczema. You can seek treatment from a TCM practitioner, using decoctions of astragalus, psoralia, and tribulus terrestris as tea to enhance skin antibacterial properties and reduce allergic reactions. You might want to give it a try.
