3. Regarding Post-Cerebellar Hemorrhage Recovery
Q: My father is 60 years old and was hospitalized in August 2013 for a cerebellar hemorrhage. Since discharge, he has been symptom-free when lying down, but gets dizzy whenever he moves. He is currently taking nifedipine extended-release tablets, with blood pressure at 140/100 mmHg. He has also experienced dry mouth and emotional instability since the onset of the illness. How should he recover?
A: There are many medications for treating hypertension. If nifedipine isn’t effective, you can switch to other options:
- Beta-blockers: Propranolol, Metoprolol, etc.
- Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors: Captopril
- Angiotensin II receptor antagonists: Losartan, Valsartan
- Diuretics like spironolactone can also be used when necessary.
