Question: The area around my lips has been red and itchy for a whole year. Can I tell what’s causing it just by looking at my mouth?
Answer: This is lip inflammation, caused by a virus, often a sequela of viral colds, with an allergic tendency. In terms of treatment, focusing solely on antiviral therapy is not enough; anti-allergy treatment is also necessary. Western medicine can use ribavirin, cyproheptadine, and thymosin peptides, but the efficacy is not guaranteed. Traditional Chinese medicine, such as Mahuang Guizhi Tang, Da Qing Ye, Ban Lan Gen, Wu She, Chan Tui, Bai Xian Pi, Di Fu Zi, etc., is very effective, though optimal results require syndrome differentiation-based treatment.
