Q: Male, 28 years old: During epileptic seizures, his limbs convulse, his jaw clenches tightly, and sometimes white foam appears. Can this condition be completely cured? How should it be treated?
A: First, a cranial CT or MRI scan is needed. If intracranial organic lesions are ruled out, epilepsy can be cured. Western medications such as carbamazepine, sodium valproate, and benzodiazepines all have significant efficacy, but they’re only symptomatic treatments. To truly cure the condition, TCM therapies such as calming the spirit, nourishing yin and suppressing yang, and promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis must be applied through syndrome differentiation.
