7. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis
Yi Xiao: I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis and went to the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine department. The doctor prescribed leflunomide tablets and captopril tablets. Previous doctors said there's no specific medication for this condition, so I've been very conflicted about whether to take these two drugs. I also heard that Mao Dongqing is very good, but unfortunately, the hospital doesn't have it now.
Answer: Hashimoto's disease is an inevitable consequence of chronic follicular thyroiditis. Its pathological essence is hypothyroidism. The traditional treatment drug is levothyroxine, while cardiac stimulants and hormones are not suitable. If there's edema (myxedema), some diuretics can be used.
