15. Zheng: Can schizophrenia be cured?
Answer: Schizophrenia has been treated in psychiatric hospitals around the world for over a century, but the actual disease being treated is always schizophrenia. Electroconvulsive therapy, insulin shock therapy, nerve blockade, and partial brain tissue removal—all have unsatisfactory results. Various sedatives such as carbamazepine, sodium valproate, clozapine, and benzodiazepines all have some sedative effect, but none can completely cure the disease. Only traditional Chinese medicine has shown potential for curing certain patients.
