Question: I’ve had heel pain for several years. I’ve tried soaking my feet in traditional Chinese medicine at home and receiving treatment at the hospital, but neither has been very effective. How should this be treated?

Answer: There are two possible causes of heel pain: ① bone spurs; ② nerve pain. From a TCM perspective, it’s often related to kidney deficiency, particularly kidney yang deficiency. Soaking feet is a good method. It is recommended to add a small amount of salt, Sichuan pepper, and fennel seeds to the foot-soaking water.
