4. Consultation on Hyperthyroidism Treatment
Q: My younger sister has hyperthyroidism, with all test results exceeding normal levels by dozens of times. The hospital recommends ^131 radioactive iodine therapy, but she is afraid it will affect her future fertility. Is it safe to undergo this treatment?
A: It is better to start with treatments such as propylthiouracil and methimazole, combined with traditional Chinese medicine for better efficacy. I do not recommend immediately resorting to ^131 treatment. ^131 is absolutely indicated for thyroid cancer, but not for hyperthyroidism, because its side effects are quite significant.
