Q: I’m a 19-year-old girl. Since the end of March, I’ve had widespread red rashes on my skin. The hospital diagnosed me with urticaria and prescribed Fangfeng Tongsheng Wan and loratadine tablets, as well as intravenous and intramuscular injections. Each time, the symptoms would improve for a day or two, but then they’d return. I’ve had seafood allergies before, but I haven’t eaten seafood or spicy food lately, yet the condition still hasn’t improved. What should I do?
A: For allergic conditions, it’s crucial to undergo systematic treatment consistently. Relying solely on allergy testing isn’t reliable, because allergens can be anything—things you expect and things you don’t. Seafood, mushrooms, and wood ear mushrooms are usually the most common culprits, so avoid these foods. Additionally, I recommend seeking diagnosis and treatment based on TCM differentiation, as its effectiveness varies from person to person and is often better than purely Western medical approaches.
