Question: I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, with the main symptom being tachycardia. What do you think is the best treatment for this condition?
Answer: The two most commonly used medications for hyperthyroidism are propylthiouracil and methimazole, and propranolol can also be used for symptomatic treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine offers many prescriptions for treating hyperthyroidism, but it’s best to use syndrome differentiation and treatment. I don’t recommend treatment with ¹³¹I, as it often leads to hypothyroidism, requiring long-term levothyroxine use.
