Trigeminal Neuralgia
Q: Are there any effective treatments for trigeminal neuralgia in elderly patients? I've tried many methods, but none have been very successful.
A: Trigeminal neuralgia is extremely difficult to treat. To date, neither traditional Chinese medicine nor Western medicine has found a method that can achieve a complete cure in the short term. While Western medical techniques such as nerve block therapy and nerve ablation are effective, they still cannot be considered a definitive cure. Traditional Chinese medicine offers numerous therapeutic formulas, but these must be tailored to individual symptoms to achieve any meaningful effect—though the results are still far from ideal. For example, Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Tang, Danggui Sini San, and Xiaoxu Ming Tang all have notable analgesic effects, though they may not work for everyone.
