Fetal Renal Cysts
Question: My sister is six months pregnant, and a four-dimensional ultrasound shows renal cysts in the fetus. Is this condition serious?
Answer: Don’t worry if renal cysts are detected in a six-month-old fetus. On ultrasound, it’s often difficult to distinguish renal cysts from mild hydronephrosis. If it’s hydronephrosis, the fluid accumulation will usually resolve as the fetus develops. Even if it is indeed a renal cyst, it’s not a major concern. Normal delivery and proper postnatal care are the best course of action.
