My mother has had rheumatoid arthritis with osteoarthritis for 4–5 years. She has joint effusion, some meniscus damage, and leg deformities (though they don’t affect walking). Could you prescribe a TCM formula for her?
Answer: This is a complex case of overlapping rheumatoid arthritis and degenerative joint disease. Such patients require long-term pain management. Often, their gastrointestinal function is impaired, leading to malnutrition, calcium deficiency, trace element deficiencies, and vitamin deficiencies, which in turn disrupt metabolism, endocrine function, and autonomic nervous system regulation. Comprehensive treatment is essential. Single prescriptions or isolated medications won’t solve the problem.
