I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with subacute thyroiditis. I’m supposed to take pantoprazole sodium enteric-coated tablets and prednisone acetate tablets. I also underwent a neck ultrasound, with thyroid FT3 at 5.51, FT4 at 13.73, TSH at 0.86, TCAb at 0.30, and TPOAb at 0.20. All results are within reference ranges, and my ESR is 77. Is this subacute thyroiditis?
<!-- translated-chunk:33/53 -->Answer: You may not necessarily have subacute thyroiditis. Seventy percent of patients with subacute thyroiditis have a history of hyperthyroidism, while thirty percent have a history of hypothyroidism. However, your erythrocyte sedimentation rate is unlikely to be that high. I would instead consider the possibility that you have an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune diseases encompass a broad spectrum of conditions; therefore, you should undergo a comprehensive examination to establish a definitive diagnosis before proceeding with further treatment.
