1. Tonify Qi and Strengthen the Spleen

One of the key principles is that water fears earth; another is that the spleen governs the transportation and transformation of food and fluids. As the ancients said, "The stomach absorbs and transports substances, while the spleen distributes and transforms them." When the spleen is strong, the qi of food and fluids flows freely throughout the body—this is why we say that "the spleen resides in the center and spreads out in all directions." In addition to the previously mentioned Wuling, Wupí, and Linggui Zhigan formulas, the most commonly used formula for treating chronic glomerulonephritis is Ba Shan Si Jun Tang: 20g of Bi Fan Ye, 10g of Shan Yao, 20g of Huang Jing, 10g of Tu Si Zi, 20g of Ying Shi, 20g of Jin Ying Zi, 20g of Nu Zhen Zi, 20g of Han Lian Cao, 10g of Dang Shen, 10g of Bai Zhu, 12g of Fu Ling, 6g of Gan Cao. Brew the herbs in water and take one dose daily.
