Six-Nine Reflections

Seven-Character Regular Verse

Another spring arrives, with rain-soaked skies; I walk alone by the river, listening to the chirping of crickets. My heart is filled with a hundred emotions, yet my soul feels heavy as the setting sun—my old age has come, but I still find solace in the thought that I have lived a life of integrity and righteousness. With three thousand disciples, I’ve traveled through the vast lands of China; my writings have illuminated the world’s medical garden. Even when the silkworms die and their silk is exhausted, it can still be used for medicinal purposes—three parts of it are truly remarkable.

Note: On February 23, 2007, I celebrated my 69th birthday, and I composed these verses while walking alone along the banks of the Yellow River.

Three Random Poems

September 2, 2006

I. Autumn Sounds

Seven-Character Regular Verse

My heart is filled with countless feelings, like the vastness of the sky; loyal officials have always faced hardships on their paths. He Shen enjoyed success in the lofty halls of power, while Hai Rui remained silent, his spirit unshaken by the storms of fate. Under the moonlight, Xiao He’s shadow was nowhere to be seen, and the famous Chancellor of Shu was lost to time. This year, autumn came early to China—red leaves hung low, their beauty lingering in my heart.

Original Note: In September 2006, I learned online that a leader who had been devoted to the Party’s cause, whose integrity and moral character were admired by all, and who had worked tirelessly without seeking personal gain, had not been given the opportunity to make greater contributions to the people.

II. Writing in the Night

October 2006

With a brush in hand, I created works that would last a lifetime; my spirit soared, reaching far beyond the ordinary. In the quiet darkness, my heart remained calm, and as I wrote, the light of dawn slowly spread across the heavens.

III. Reading in Old Age

(October 2006)

I continue to learn even in my old age; at the age of seventy, I remain diligent and hardworking. There’s no need for others to judge whether my work is good or not—after all, I believe that reading enriches one’s life and adds years to one’s lifespan.

Five Random Poems

October 20, 2003

I. Autumn Sentiment in Qingyang①

Five-Character Regular Verse

The city of Fengcheng is full of beauty, its splendor illuminating the vast lands of Longchou. The trees planted by Zhou Gong stand tall, and the great physician Qi Bo’s statue rises above the city walls. After the rain, clouds swirl around the land, and the wind carries the fragrance of flowers along the roads. As I walk through the autumn season, I feel refreshed, and the dew dances away my worries.

II. Accepting an Invitation to Write

When I picked up my pen, I felt a bit shy—after all, we should always remember our humble beginnings. We gathered together, sharing laughter and joy, and there was no need to worry about whether our work was good or not.

III. Old Age

Though old age may seem silent, I still strive to keep moving forward. Do not think that it’s too late to start something new—let the sunset paint the sky with vibrant colors.

IV. Planting Grass and Trees

Autumn rains fall heavily, and the autumn season is in full swing; the rivers and valleys are covered in greenery. Ten years of farming have borne fruit, and the benefits will last for generations, benefiting both the people and the land.

V. Spirit

People see the spirit in a tiger’s eyes, but I see the spirit in my own actions. The plum blossom stands proudly against the snow, and even when the ice is three feet thick, it still blooms beautifully.

Original Note:①In May 2004, I was invited to give a lecture in Qingyang.

Practicing Calligraphy for the Double Ninth Festival

September 2006

My brush moves swiftly, and my ink flows freely—my spirit soars as I write poems. The green mountains outside my window do not laugh at me; time seems to move on, yet it never quite returns.

A Gift to Minister Li Min

October 2003

I

In the past, he left behind a legacy of good governance, and his words and deeds were truly worthy of admiration. The autumn winds carry the sound of geese over the distant borderlands, and as I look toward the north, I miss you deeply.

II

After reading his great works, I still feel unsettled—his heart is filled with warmth, and his words remind me of those who once shared our lives. The ancient land of Longchou has always been home to upright officials, and his writings bring us comfort and hope.

III

His talent is self-deprecating, yet he always cherishes his family and loves his country. Though he faced many challenges, he never gave up—his spirit remains strong, and he continues to inspire us with his wisdom.

IV

A man’s spirit is what makes him powerful, and his actions speak louder than his words. The plum blossom stands tall, proud and beautiful, even in the cold winter.

Original Note: ①Yang Limin served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Gansu Provincial Party Committee and as the Minister of Organization; later he moved to Inner Mongolia, where he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Regional Party Committee and as the Minister of Organization, as well as Deputy Secretary of the Regional Party Committee. He was known for his integrity, honesty, and ability to treat others with respect, and he was also skilled in both literature and writing. He often exchanged letters with me, and we became close friends.

②Li Ying, a minister during the Eastern Han Dynasty, was renowned for his knowledge and moral character; although Xun Shuang was highly educated and capable of serving as a high-ranking official, he chose to drive a cart for Li Ying for many years.

③Han Zong, a minister during the Tang Dynasty, served as the Governor of Jingzhou. He was handsome and possessed both great knowledge and noble character; Li Bai once wrote, “I do not wish to become a marquis with ten thousand households, but I only wish to meet Han Zheng.”

Chapter Three: Selected Poems and Writings

Four Poems About a Trip to Qinzhou

In the winter of the Year of Yiyu, I accepted an invitation from Minister Yang Limin to join a delegation from Inner Mongolia’s Party, government, and military to travel to Tianshui. Along the way, I spent time chatting with Minister Limin, sharing stories from the past and present, and reflecting on the scenery around us—these moments inspired me to compose four poems.

I. On the Road

This journey to Qinzhou is like returning home; the car travels through the countryside, filled with joy and peace. It’s rare to find someone who understands your thoughts and shares your experiences—this is a blessing in times of prosperity.

II. Three Days in Qin City

Seven-Character Regular Verse

The weather turns cold in October, and the grass and trees begin to wither; yet, I enjoy a peaceful stay here, free from worldly concerns.

Wine brings us closer to old friends, and we share stories of the past—our hearts are filled with warmth and joy. The nation’s future is filled with hope, and our spirits soar as we talk about the past. Three days pass, and as I bid farewell to you, the wind blows gently along the banks of the Wei River.

III. Nan Guo Temple

Seven-Character Regular Verse

Together we climbed the ancient temple, gazing out at the city walls; the towering buildings stretched into the sky, blending seamlessly with the misty clouds. Ancient trees stood tall, their roots stretching deep into the water, while new bamboo groves sprang forth from the streams. The calligraphers’ brushes brought forth dragons and snakes from the pages of books, and the poets’ words carried the echoes of the wind through the ages. We talked together about the events of a thousand years ago, and the mountains and rivers seemed to sing in harmony.

IV. Fuxi Temple

Seven-Character Regular Verse

We looked at the square, then at the temple; ancient cypress trees stood tall, their branches reaching toward the sky. The plaques were filled with wonderful words, and the intricate carvings were truly impressive. The four animals symbolized the beginning of the world, and the two poles of the universe were revealed in the teachings of the ancients. From here, the dragon rose to the heavens, and the people of Longchou took pride in their heritage.

Original Note: ①Du Fu’s poem “Journey to Longnan” mentions “old trees.” ②The “North Stream” mentioned in Du Fu’s poetry. ③The Two Wonders Pavilion featured the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi. ④The Two Wonders Pavilion also contained poems by Du Fu.

Chapter Three: Selected Poems and Writings

Thoughts on an Old Class Reunion at Lanzhou No. 1 Middle School①

August 14, 2006

I

Time has passed, and fifty years have gone by; the young men of that time have grown old. When we met again, we didn’t ask about our past sorrows—instead, we simply enjoyed the moment, letting go of our worries and embracing the joys of the present.

II

Our hearts are filled with love for the sun; though we’ve faced many storms in our lives, we still find hope in the future. The earth has changed, but the changes are not permanent—now, we’re ready to embrace new opportunities and new beginnings.

III

Don’t lament the past—like the setting sun, the golden hours of the day are more beautiful than the morning light. Old horses don’t fear the end of their days; as long as we’re still able to create meaningful works, we’ll continue to write beautiful stories.

Original Note:①In August 2006, old classmates traveled to Lanzhou to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their graduation from Lanzhou No. 1 Middle School, traveling from Beijing, Xi’an, and other places.

Poems About a Visit to Guilin

In the autumn of the Year of Gengwu, I traveled to Guilin with Professor Liu Baohou① to attend the National Conference on Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.

I. Scenery Around Guilin

Seven-Character Regular Verse

The blue waters reflect the lush bamboo groves, and birds sing loudly amidst the green hills and clear waters. The rising sun bathes the water in golden light, and the morning breeze carries the scent of mist, making the mountains appear magical. Water buffalo break through the waves, floating down the river; yachts chase after the waves, heading back to port. Suddenly, a heavy rain falls, and the wind begins to blow—clouds cover the sky, and dreams drift in the mist.

II. Street Vendors on the River

Before Jiamao Mountain, the river stretches wide, its waters shimmering like gold in the sunlight. Street vendors call out their wares, offering sweet oranges and tangerines—sweet and delicious!

III. Rain on the River

As the boat passes through the waves, the sky suddenly darkens, and the wind blows softly through the clouds. The mist wraps around the mountains, and the clouds seem to hide the view—but in reality, they’re just waiting for the right moment to reveal themselves. The river’s surface is smooth, and the water glimmers like jade—don’t forget to take a look at the reflection of the sky.

IV. A Poem for Brother Baohou

You are the only true friend among the people of Longchou; for seven days in Guilin, we shared heartfelt bonds. Guilin’s landscapes are unparalleled in the world—both the natural beauty and the harmonious relationships between people and nature.

V. Reflections on the Conference

We meet again, and our old faces are now etched with new memories. Let’s talk about how we can work together—when we’re old, who will be the next generation of leaders?

Original Note: ①Liu Baohou is a renowned expert in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in Gansu Province. ②This refers to the field of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

Poems About Traveling in Yunnan and Guizhou

In the autumn of 1977, I traveled to Guiyang at the invitation of friends in the medical community of Guizhou. At that time, the “Gang of Four” had just fallen, and people were still uncertain about the future—many were unsure of what lay ahead. We visited Dianchi Lake, Stone Forest, and Huangguoshu Waterfall.

I. Looking Out at Guiyang from the North

The mountain city is shrouded in autumn rain, and the mist and clouds linger for a long time. Looking out from the balcony, tears well up in the eyes of those who have been waiting for years—how long will it take for the storms of fate to pass?

II. Dianchi Lake

Climbing the western hill, we gazed out at the lake, where clouds and mist danced across the water. Where is the city of Spring? The smoke and trees stretch endlessly, and the wind is chillingly sad.

Chapter Three: Selected Poems and Writings

III. Stone Forest

Standing atop the peak, we gazed at the Stone Forest—its natural beauty left us in awe. The ancient trees stand tall, their roots stretching deep into the earth, while the clouds and winds change constantly.

IV. Huangguoshu Waterfall

Ten thousand acres of green water rise from the sky, and the waterfall crashes down like a celestial river. Eight thousand miles of road stretch before us, and we are filled with sorrow—yet we still find hope in the future.

V. Dreams in the Car

We are travelers who leave our hometowns, and our journeys are long and arduous. We sleep for half of the journey, but our dreams are filled with hope. For days on end, we dream of a better future—where the people of China can live in peace and safety.

Original Note:①The Cultural Revolution had just ended, and the country was still recovering from the devastation of war and poverty.

Poems Written While Traveling in the United States

In the spring and summer of 1996, I traveled to the United States to accept an award and give a lecture at the Third World Conference on Traditional Medicine.

I. Arriving in San Francisco

After crossing thousands of miles of ocean, we arrived in San Francisco—just as we expected, the city was full of charm. The scenery here was truly beautiful, and we met people who spoke Chinese fluently.

II. On the Way to the Hotel

The car moved silently, like a river flowing through the city. The villas were scattered throughout the harbor city. Outside the windows, the clouds and trees cast shadows on the lawn, and the greenery of the streets was reflected in the sunlight.

Chapter Three: Selected Poems and Writings

III. Meeting an Old Classmate, Professor Wu Shihua①

Seven-Character Regular Verse

Forty years have passed since we last met—our hearts have grown older, but our spirits still soar. We shared stories of our past, and we were filled with nostalgia for the days when we were young. Professor Wu’s wise eyes saw far beyond the horizon, while I found myself longing for my hometown. When we met again, let’s not think of old age as a burden—let’s embrace the sunset as a new dawn.

IV. Meeting Professor Su Yan’an③ in Las Vegas

Professor Su Yan’an was elegant and charming, and his students were amazed by his wisdom. After ten years of hard work, he achieved great results—and he became a role model for his students.

Original Note: ①Wu Shihua was a classmate of mine from Xi’an Medical University forty years ago, and he currently serves as a professor at the University of Chicago, where he also chairs the American Acupuncture Society.

②In 1956, Wu Shihua entered the medical program at Xi’an Medical University from Gansu Province.

③Su Yan’an was born in Jingyuan, Gansu Province, and he traveled to the United States ten years ago—earning his master’s degree, then his doctorate, then becoming a professor, and eventually a doctoral supervisor.

Poems Written While Traveling in Europe

In October 1999, I was invited to give lectures and conduct research in Western Europe.

I. Munich Stadium①

Munich’s city is surrounded by tall towers, and the autumn trees line the shores of the lake. Thirty years after the Olympic Games, the city still holds a special place in people’s hearts.

II. Salzburg and Mozart②

The ancient castle sits beside the city in the late autumn, and the symphony of music fills the air, easing our worries. The sounds of Mozart echo through the city for three hundred years, and the rivers and lakes still flow through history.

III. The Rhine River

Seven-Character Regular Verse

The Alps are adorned with rainbow-like streaks, and the force of the wind is immense. High cliffs generate electricity, lighting up the world, while the rivers and seas connect us to the clouds. The warriors’ voices fade away, but the scholars’ words remain, carrying the scent of history. The mist and clouds hold back the beauty, but the myriad colors of spring still prevail.

IV. Amsterdam④

The poem “Qing Ping Le” says:

Seeing the rainbow fly across the sea, we divide the ocean equally. On the other side, the waves surge, while on this side, the wind is calm. The canals connect us to the world, and the city of Amsterdam is known as a water city. Look down from the top of the tower, and you’ll see giant ships passing through the streets.

Note:①This stadium was built specifically for the 1972 Olympic Games.

②Mozart was one of the most famous musicians of the 18th century, born in Salzburg, Austria.

③The Rhine River originates from Mount St. Gerlach in the Alps, where it starts as a small waterfall.

④Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, and it’s known alongside Venice in Italy as a world-renowned water city—its large seawall stretches 51 nautical miles, making it a famous landmark around the globe.

A Revisit to Pingliang

March 1985

I. Qiu Ji Yu Mei

The peach blossoms bloom quietly along the way, and we travel to Pingliang in a light vehicle. Forty years ago, our dreams seemed so real—when the Japanese invaders surrendered, the people rejoiced together. Now, we’re fortunate to visit our old homeland, and we’re finding peace in our hearts. We look at the new buildings, and we see the city of Pingliang transformed by reform and opening up.

II. Morning Walk by Liu Hu②

Seven-Character Regular Verse

Forty years have passed, and the world has changed—though we can’t distinguish the old features in the night sky. A crescent moon awakens the remnants of our dreams, and the willows sway in the wind, reminding us of the past. Left Wen Zhong, a great general, led the army to victory in the chaos of the past—while General Peng solved the people’s problems. All the things of the past are gone, but the scenes of the past still linger in our minds.

III. On the Way Home

Seven-Character Regular Verse

We drove through the Jinghe Valley, and the fields stretched out before us, their greenery filling the landscape. The grain warehouses of Longchou had changed, and the women in front of our homes were as beautiful as flowers. Thirty years ago, we remembered the hardships of poverty, but ten years later, we found sweetness in our lives. Comrade Xiaoping was truly great—his leadership helped us transform the old ways of the past into new ones.

Original Note:①I spent my childhood with my father in Pingliang.

②I stayed at the Pingliang Hotel, and I woke up at four in the morning, unable to fall back asleep. I got dressed and went out to visit Liu Hu Park nearby.

③Zuo Zongtang returned from the chaos of the past and set up a large camp in Pingliang.

④Peng Dehuai marched westward and established a camp in Pingliang.

Poems About Traveling to the East Sea

In the summer of the Year of Gengwu, I was invited to participate in the National Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine Strategy in Dalian, and I traveled through Qingdao and Yantai, enjoying the sea and learning much during the journey.

I. National Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine Strategy

Seven-Character Regular Verse

We boarded a ship and sailed along the eight thousand miles of water, where students gathered under the clouds and mist. The elders shared their experiences, while the younger generation dared to challenge the old ways. We must experiment and combine theory with practice, using microscopic techniques to help macroscopic studies. If the masters of Qihuang and Zhongjing were still alive, we could share the warmth of spring with them in the realm of medicine.

II. Arriving in Qingdao

As we passed through Qingdao at dusk, the lights were dim, and the city seemed to be alive with people. Every hotel was full, and the streets were filled with travelers who missed their families.

III. At Sea in Yantai

The rain fell lightly as we boarded the ship, and the sea was vast and the wind blew through the night. Dreams blurred our vision as we sat by the window, and the lights of Dalian twinkled in the darkness.

IV. Streets of Dalian

The wind carried the fragrance of flowers, and the streets were filled with the aroma of the sea. We gazed at the new buildings, and we saw the city of Dalian transformed by reform and opening up.

V. Visiting the Market with Professor Tan②

Professor Tan had traveled far from Guizhou, and I had crossed thousands of mountains to reach him. We met again, and we found that we had many connections—each meeting brought us closer to each other.

VI. Beachside Baths

The waters of Dalian were as clear as springs, and the beaches were filled with the beauty of the sea. We gazed at the towering trees, and the scent of the sea filled the air. We saw new buildings rising from the ground, and the city of Dalian was changing before our eyes.

VII. Observing the Sea Peaks

On the mountaintop, we gazed at the sea peaks, and the wind blew gently through the clouds. We heard the fishermen’s songs echoing from below, but we couldn’t see the sails—only the clouds.

Original Note:①The conference was held at the Yunwu Villa in Dalian.

②Tan Jiaxiang, Dean of the Guangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a renowned expert in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

Poems About Traveling to Hexi

In April of the Year of Wuchen, I was invited by the Science and Technology Association of Jinchang to give a lecture in Jinchang, and I traveled through Wushaoling and the Hexi Corridor, seeing many beautiful sights.

I. Passing Through Zhongchuan

We drove through Zhongchuan, where the grass and trees were sparse, and the yellow dust covered the mountains. Ten years have passed—though we can’t fully understand the changes, we still see the greenery growing near the mountains.

II. Wushaoling

We drove through Wushaoling, where the clouds were low and the sky was gray. This year, spring came early—flowers bloomed along the roads, filling the air with fragrance.

III. Jinchang City②

Seven-Character Regular Verse

The city has undergone tremendous changes—new cities have risen from the desert. Thousand-fold forests stretch across the sand, and ten thousand buildings stand tall in the cold wind. The dividends of reform and opening up have made Jinchang a national treasure, and the black gold has become a source of wealth for the entire world. With every step we take, we’re working toward a better future—on the land of Jianghan, we’re already seeing the first signs of spring.

Original Note:①Ten years of reform and opening up.

②This city did not exist before; it was newly built in the 1950s.

③Black gold refers to nickel, which Jinchang produces, and its total output ranks first in the world.

Poems About Traveling to Jianghan

In the autumn of the Year of Xinwei, I traveled to Jiujiang to attend the National Liver Disease Conference, and I traveled through Wuhan, sailing along the Yangtze River to visit Yellow Crane Tower, Xuyang Tower, and climb Mount Lu, enjoying the scenery of Jianghan.

I. On the River Boat

The wind was strong on the river, and we sat in the sun, taking a short rest by the railing. The white clouds drifted across the sky, and the sunset was far away—half a day of leisure on the river.

II. Yellow Crane Tower

Seven-Character Regular Verse

We gazed at the city of Jianghan, where the clouds and trees were dense, and the great river surged with waves. The turtle-shaped mountain stood in the distance, and the autumn flowers fell—when will the spring willows grow thick? The few things in the river, the people’s dreams, and the empty lands—my heart was filled with sadness. But I let my thoughts drift with the waves, and I gazed at the horizon, where the sun was shining brightly.

III. Mount Lu

I love Mount Lu, with its ancient pines that stand tall and proud, their branches reaching toward the sky. Through the centuries, the wind and rain have passed, but the pines still stand tall, their branches adorned with red hues.

IV. Thoughts on Mount Lu

Just like the pine trees on Mount Lu, the sky is vast—Mount Lu has always been a place of destiny. If not for Yangtze, the land would have been barren, and the twilight would have been filled with sorrow.

V. Contemplating Hengpo Peak

The clouds obscured the sky, and the mist wrapped around the autumn—on Hengpo Peak, the wind blew gently. The waters of Poyang Lake acted like a mirror, and we could see the true face of Mount Lu.

VI. The Woman Who Led the Way

The red walls and green tiles of the woman’s temple were filled with the scent of incense, and the ancient temple was silent. The brave woman, who had overcome many trials, was a true hero—her spirit was stronger than her appearance.

VII. Zhou Yu’s Battle Site

The waters of Gantang Lake were as blue as a carpet, and the waves crashed against the silver bridge, like the sound of a horse’s hooves. The wind was strong, and the iron horses seemed to shake—perhaps the horses were neighing in the wind.

VIII. Climbing Xuyang Tower

On Xuyang Tower, we gazed at Jiangzhou, watching the Yangtze River flow endlessly. Song Jiang once wrote a poem about rebellion, and his words brought sorrow to people throughout history.

IX. Returning Home by Boat

The passengers on the boat slept soundly, and the traveler listened to the waves crashing at night. It wasn’t the fine clothes that brought us home—this journey was filled with the wind, and the path ahead was still long.

X. Crossing Chibi

The water and sky merged into one, and the mountains were low—when we passed through Ezhou, the wind was strong. This was the site of Zhou Yu’s fierce battle, and the ten-mile pavilions were filled with the sound of weapons being lowered.

XI. Saying Goodbye to Zhang Jun④

We met for five days, and our friendship grew stronger as we talked about the past and the future. We parted ways in Wuchang, and we still thought of each other as we drove through Hanyang.

Original Note:①The “Gang of Four” had just been defeated, and the national finances were on the brink of collapse—people still felt a sense of uncertainty.

②Zhang Juncai, Associate Professor at the Guangzhou College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Director of the Sanya Hospital.

Poems About Traveling to Longnan

In the height of summer of the Year of Yiyu, the Gansu Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine held a “Professor Pei Zhengxue Clinical Experience Workshop” in Wudu. I was invited to give a lecture in Wudu, and I also visited Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou, enjoying the scenic beauty of the region.

I. Arriving at Wudu Hotel

We drove to the mountain city, where the sky was clear and cool—though the rain might come soon. The reception staff greeted us warmly, and we shook hands, exchanging warm greetings.

II. Dinner with the Secretary①

The secretary welcomed us with a grand banquet, where we shared drinks and conversations. The officials and local leaders were all young, but I was the only one who had reached old age.

III. Four Poems About Huanglong

(1) Morning Walk in Huanglong

The clear stream echoed through the mountains, and the green hills were still asleep. The remaining moonlight made me reluctant to leave—when the rooster crowed, the morning mist cleared.

(2) Mountain Gate

The winding path led to a secluded place, where flowers were in full bloom. The waterfall sang softly, and the long pines stretched toward the sky—this place was truly beautiful.

(3) Mountain Spring

Layer upon layer of water flowed from the waterfall, and the yellow rocks were scattered across the sky. Wooden bridges connected the paths, and the sound of water echoed through the valley.

(4) Summit

We walked slowly to the end of the mountain, where the clouds parted and the grass smelled fresh. The snow-capped mountains smiled in July, and the tourists were filled with joy.

IV. Journey Home②

(1)

The skyscrapers on the road were steep, and the mountains were lined up like soldiers in formation. The sunset was like a beautiful woman smiling—she was not a hero, but she could cross the mountains.

(2)

A gentle breeze broke through the morning mist, and the car sped up to Mijiang Mountain. We didn’t worry about the steep slopes ahead—we had already passed through the flat land.

(3)

We stopped at Maoba, where the spices were filling the air—spices like pepper and chili were everywhere. The car stopped, and the driver didn’t notice, but the village women were already wearing new clothes.

(4)

We passed through the Jiangluo Road, and the road was flat—just ahead was the Wei River. The scenery was still familiar, and the land was full of affection.

Original Note:①Shao Ming, Secretary of the Longnan Municipal Party Committee, hosted a banquet to welcome us.

②After visiting Huanglong, my fingers were cut by the door of the car. Though I received simple bandages, I didn’t visit Jiuzhaigou, and I immediately returned to Lanzhou.

③My hometown, Wushan, lies on the banks of the Wei River.

I. Climbing Mount Tai

Seven-Character Regular Verse

The mountain’s energy is truly extraordinary—its shape resembles a tiger, a dragon, and a phoenix, guarding the rivers and lakes. The Yellow River sinks beneath its feet, and the Bohai Sea wraps around its knees; The peaks all bow their heads, and the three ridges rise to the sky—this is where the gods reside. It’s a place where the spirit soars and the soul is moved—on the summit of Mount Tai, we happily gaze at the sky.
