①During the active phase of an ulcer, it is important to balance work and rest and maintain a positive attitude. If symptoms are severe, especially in cases with concurrent bleeding, bed rest is recommended. When pain is intense, close monitoring of the condition is necessary to be vigilant for the occurrence of massive hemorrhage and gastric perforation.

②Diet should consist of frequent small meals—eating more often but in smaller portions. Patients with severe symptoms can eat every 2 hours, with an antacid administered between meals, which can effectively control symptoms.

③The diet should be low-residue, soft, and easily digestible semi-liquid foods, avoiding hard, raw, cold, overly hot, fried foods, and irritating substances such as alcohol, strong tea, coffee, chili peppers, and mustard. Smoking should be avoided, as it can delay ulcer healing and reduce the tone (contractility) of the pyloric sphincter, leading to bile reflux. It is also important to develop the habit of eating in moderation and avoid overeating. In addition, caution should be exercised when using anti-inflammatory drugs like indomethacin and corticosteroids.
