4) Powder
Herbs are finely ground into fine powders, known as powder formulations. These are divided into internal and external uses. Internal powder formulations are dissolved in hot water or added to soup packets for decoction. Their effects are similar to those of decoctions, though they tend to have smaller dosages and less ideal absorption rates, resulting in somewhat weaker therapeutic effects compared to decoctions. External powder formulations are often used in surgery, trauma, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, and other conditions, applied as sprinkles or compresses directly onto affected areas.
