2.3.3 Activating Blood Circulation and Removing Stasis
Activating blood circulation and removing stasis is a commonly used method for treating liver cancer. Experimental studies have shown that such formulas have liver-protective, cancer-cell-killing or -inhibiting, anti-metastasis, and immune-enhancing effects. Commonly used blood-activating and stasis-removing drugs in clinical practice include paeonia lactiflora, ligusticum chuanxiong, salvia miltiorrhiza, curcuma wenyujin, carthamus tinctorius, frankincense, and myrrh. Jiang Shihong et al. [6] found that activating blood circulation and removing stasis induces apoptosis in tumor cells by regulating the expression of apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2 and Bax, and can significantly inhibit the growth of H₂₂ tumor-bearing mice.
