3. Activate Blood Circulation and Dissolve Stasis

The Su Wen, in the chapter "Discussion on Bi," says, "When a disease lasts a long time, the flow of Ying and Wei becomes sluggish, the meridians become blocked, and blood circulation is impaired." This indicates that prolonged illness leads to blockage of the meridians and blood stasis. Chronic nephritis is a long-lasting disease, and some patients often experience gum bleeding, nosebleeds, subcutaneous hemorrhages, and others may even see obvious blood stasis spots on their tongues. All these clinical manifestations conform to the evidence of "blood stasis." Based on this, adding a few blood-activating and stasis-dissolving herbs, such as Tao Ren, Hong Hua, Yi Mu Cao, Hai Zao, Kun Bu, San Leng, and E Zhu, to the prescription for treating chronic nephritis often yields good results, especially the use of Hai Zao, Yi Mu Cao, San Leng, and E Zhu, which can help patients with long-term proteinuria gradually recover. Among them, Yi Mu Cao can be used up to 30 g, according to the author's clinical experience in recent years. The Yishen Tang developed by the Shanxi Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine incorporates the Tao Hong Si Wu Tang as part of its composition, precisely following this principle in formulating the prescription.
